ESG and Organisational Sustainability

ESG- Environmental Social and Governance, a framework that helps organisations and their stakeholders to understand and manage opportunites and risks related to the environmental, social, and governance criteria, in turn making the organisaiton sustainable. The term was first used in a 2004 report titled “Who Cares Wins,” a collaborative initiative of financial institutions at the invitation of the UN. As we know in India, CSR- Corporate Social Responsibility spending and reporting has been governed by Companies Law since 2013. Furthermore, BRSR- Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting, introduced by SEBI (Securities Exchange Board of India) has been made compulsory for the top 1000 listed companies (by market capitalization) from FY 2022–23.
